the Council of Magi

The Council of Magi are the overseeing body of mages of Ilth. They see themselves as the protectors of the Ilth. Prior to the coming of Gargash their influence was strong yet they were distant from the realm, caught up in their own lust for magical exploration and discovery. They lacked the vision to realise what the Cabal of the Black Sun were doing to the Ilthium Empire. After the coming of Gargash and the resulting exodus from the ruins of the Ilthium Empire many of the Council of Magi were killed and those left consolidated their power persuading the Ilth to become isolationists. They manipulated politics and made power bargains. They banned the use of magic in any of its forms, excepting priestly powers. Anyone wishing to adventure in the wilderness must apply to the Council of the Magi. These permits are rarely given. People who violate the Council’s rules are usually exiled.

The Council of Magi are 7 in number corresponding to the 7 major holdings. These positions are however not elected. The position is filled by the Magi Prime for the holding. The Council of Magi has a head Magi known as Magus and he or she sits within the Prefecture. Each member of the Council of the Magi has one apprentice and one only to replace them.
